Thread rolling

Thread rolling

Nowadays, thread rolling is the most common procedure to produce external thread. By using the cold roll forming method, a corresponding profile is rolled onto a screw blank. This method is fast, cost-effective and guarantees a constant high quality.

Up-to-date thread rolling machine

The advantages of thread rolling are:

  • Considerable increase in strength by cold processing
  • No disconnected fiber flow compared to thread cutting
  • Reduced notch sensitivity
  • High accuracy grade
  • Press polished flank
  • Higher abrasion resistance
  • Considerable material-saving
  • Higher corrosion resistance
  • Efficient production

This method can be used for almost every thread form. Materials with an elongation beginning from appr. 6% and a tensile strength of maximum 1200N/mm can be processed. However, it has to be mentioned, the lower the breaking elongation, the higher the tools wear.
