Stud bolts
Stud bolts
Stud bolts are headless screws with a thread at both ends. One thread is called nut end, the other one threaded end. The in between lying shaft is in accordance with the thread’s nominal diameter and in practice, it is known as full shaft.
The threaded end is screwed firmly in the work piece and remains there permanently. This thread is tolerated by the special tolerance zone SK 6. This tolerance in connection with the thread runout ensures that the stud bolt can only be unscrewed very heavily. The length of the threaded end is ruled by the corresponding DIN-Norm and is based on the work piece, in which the stud bolt has to be screwed in.
DIN 835 threaded end ~ 2d
DIN 938 threaded end ~ 1d
DIN 939 threaded end ~ 1,25d
DIN 940 threaded end ~ 2,5d
With the nut end of the stud bolt, the work piece is connected with another work piece and screwed together with a nut.
This kind of connection is chosen, when a connection has to be unscrewed frequently. Stud bolts are also used to fix the work pieces better during mounting. In these cases, the SK 6 tolerance is mostly not used and the version without force fit is chosen.
We, Graewe, produce stud bolts in two different ways:
As impact extruding part on multi-stage presses. This manufacturing method is used for bigger batches and a thread up to M24.
As CNC part, if diameter > 24 mm are required and/or the batches aren’t economical for the screw presses. On our CNC machines, we can produce stud bolts up to M120.
In both manufacturing methods, the thread is done by thread rolling.
Our production programme comprises stud bolts according to DIN 835, 938, 939 and 940 with the property classes 5.6, 5.8, 8.8, 10.9 and 12.9 as well as stainless steel A2 and A4. Abnormal stud bolts according to drawing or customer requirement can also be produced fast and economically in small batches.
Up to the diameter M 24, we have a stock of appr. 600 tons of stud bolts according to DIN.
The substantial raw material stock guarantees deliveries at short notice for all non-stored items.
